As we were
walking in Ireland to have a free night with our team to make a
memory we passed a few 15 year old girls sitting on the ground next
to the side walk. The yelled out at someone and asked them a
question. Not recognizing our accent they asked where we were from.
We all replied “America” SQUEALS and SCREAMS of excited 15 year
old girls erupting into the silence of the evening!
They told us
it was SO COOL that we were American’s and that they couldn’t believe
that they were actually talking to us. They told us that this was
the best day of their life! We decided to sit down and chat with
them for a while.
One thing
they were quite passionate about was that they wanted to live in
America. They said everyone is sooooo happy there! We tried to
explain to them that we thought it was cool that they lived in
Ireland, but they didn’t really believe us when we said that all
American’s aren’t happy, that we are just like them. As the
conversation continued we exchanged phrases that American’s say and
ones that the Irish say. Some that we have been taught are:
*Que- What
they call the line they are waiting in
*Litter- Is
the trash can
*You look
massive- Your outfit is awesome
*Pudding- Any
type of dessert
*Chips- Are
french fries
*Half Three-
Means Three Thirty
This is how they call the different grades in High School
Finally the
girls asked us what we were even doing in Ireland. We went on to
explain to them about the World Race and what our objective was.
They again, thought that was so cool 🙂 Soon the conversation led to
questions about God and Jesus. Even though these girls knew about
the Christian lifestyle they haven’t really been taught in a way that
they understand. By the end of the conversation a couple of girls
had tears in their eyes and all of them want to know more about Jesus
and the reasons we have chosen to live this lifestyle for the year.
We ended up
hanging out with the girls the next two days during our free time.
The last day that we spent with them we actually were invited over
for pizza at one of the girls houses. My team, Alicia, Micah, Emily
and I sat around the table eating french fries, pizza, garlic bread,
apple pie and ice cream with our two Irish friends, Orliath (I may
have spelt that wrong, sorry, sounds like Orla) and Lauren.
This random
meeting on the street, to us wasn’t so random. Sometimes I feel like
we make everything seem like a coincidence when in reality I feel
like God placed the girls on the side of the street chatting away
knowing that we would be walking down that side walk and would meet
one another. I will never forget those girls and the amazing time
that we were able to spend together, even if it was only for a few
days.
LOVE!
