One of the goals that Vitali had for us while we were here was to help him and his church become self-sufficient. One way that he wants to establish this is by having a means of an income. His goal was for some of us to build a shelter for Beavers (Marmot actually). Apparently here in Moldova this meat is pretty pricey ($150 USD for ONE Marmot). His goal is to raise and sell these little guys so that he can invest the money into his Sinai 30 vision.
The shelter was build by blood, sweat and tears. Ok, maybe no tears, I was going for dramatic effect. Anyways, we had to mix 2 wheel barrels of dirt with one bag of cement. We would mix that all together and then add in some water then get to building! We ended up having to move hundreds of cinderblocks from on top of the hill down this intense stairway to get to the shelter area. The boys did pretty much all of the laying of cinderblocks and building this lovely shelter. (Nice Job). When the girls helped we tended to move blocks, run to the well to get water (an adventure in and of itself!), mix cement, and whatever else was needed.
The Stairway we moved about 500 bricks down!!!
A small pile of Bricks
The Beaver House (our boys did this whole thing)
The shelter is pretty much finished except for the roof. If we are unable to finish that in our last day here I am sure that the next World Race Team that is coming will be finishing that. They will be arriving the first week of November to finish their last month on the race.
LOVE!
