The first day I walked through the gates of Children Of Fire my eyes immediately spotted the person who was destined to to steal my heart.  His precious smile & sweet spirit was all it took to reel me in.

Thapelo is one of many children living at this organization.  When Thapelo was 2 yrs old he became a victim to an exploding stove, leaving him with a burned stomach, arms and the right side of his face.  He is 3 rs old now and is as precious as ever.

After spending 3 days with Thapelo I have let him fall asleep in my arms, read him Dr.Seuss, fed him and loved on him.  I don’t know where his mother is, but she is not around.  I want to bring him home to play with my nephew.  I want him to experience a normal life and the love of a family that he deserves, but in reality I can’t do anything, and the things that have happened to him in the 3 yrs he has been alive have put him in a home and left him with the scars to haunt him.

I found myself asking God, why?  Their just children and people stare at them like they are circus animals.

When meeting these children I was a little intimidated at first.  When I really starting thinking about it I realized that everyone has scars from their past.  Some are scarier than others, some aren’t as obvious.  Most are internal, but for these children they are external.

The difference between these children and myself is the fact that although their scars are more obvious they have still learned to accept it, as for me I still find myself dwelling on the scars of my past, and letting that effect who I am today.

The Lords taught me a lot about identity through these children.  Our past does not make who we are, and our outward appearance does not make who we are.  We are all children of the Most High King and our identity is found in Him.
