On Tuesday, August 9th, there will be a benefit concert at Calvary Memorial Church on Colonial Ave in Roanoke. It will start at 7pm and will have many musicians including Lillian Gray, The Hall trio, Effie Hedrick and more!
Below I want to introduce some of these amazing musicians to you so you know a bit about them before next week.
Introducing Kimberly Faber:
Kimberly Faber is a graduate of Roanoke College where she received her bachelors degree in vocal performance and obtained the highest honors.
Kimberly has performed with the Roanoke College Choir, the Roanoke Symphony and Roanoke Chorus for Beethoven’s Ninth, the Bach Project and The National Cathedral for Reformation Sunday. In December 2014 and 2015 she was privileged to perform with artists Keith and Kristyn Getty at Carnegie Hall . And most recently was blessed to be apart of Keith and Kristyn Getty’s newest album “Facing a Task Unfinished.”
Kimberly enjoys teaching piano and voice and helping her students with theater auditions. Just recently two of her students Mikayla and Bre were excepted with parts in Attic Productions for Mary Poppins. She believes this is her greatest achievement in helping her students develop a love for the arts.
Introducing Lillian Gray:
Lillian is 19 years old, a native of a Roanoke Virginia and is currently a sophomore at Bluefield College, studying Piano Pedagogy/Performance and minoring in Vocal Pedagogy. She is a Christian, saved at age four thus much of her service to the Lord has been through music at churches and local retirement centers. She has been trained formally at the piano since age six and currently studies with Dr. Lynne Mackey, an International Concert Pianist. As for flute and piccolo she studied with a local musician for two years during high school. Lillian has performed at various venues in the Roanoke Valley and in Richmond, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, Jacksonville, FL, Bluefield, SLC Utah, and New York City (Carnegie Hall). Most recently she accepted a music scholarship from the Bluefield College Music Department. She just learned that she has been nominated to audition for a collegiate vocal performance at Carnegie Hall in 2017.
Introducing Rachel Hall from the Hall Trio:
Rachel Lee Hall holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Harp Performance (with a minor in Dalcroze Eurhythmics) from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree as a student of Yolanda Kondonassis.
The 2015 CIM Presser Scholar, Ms. Hall was a winner of the 2015 CIM Concerto Competition, and was the recipient of the Alice Chalifoux Award. Also in 2015, she won the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra’s Anne Jett Rogers Award, was a finalist in the American Harp Society Competition, and was a guest artist in recital at Lyon & Healy Hall. A winner of the Lyon and Healy Award in 2013, she has also been awarded prizes from competitions such as the Saratoga Harp Colony “Play with the Pros” competition, the RYSO Young Artist’s Awards, and the James Bland Music Contest of the Lions Club.
Ms. Hall has performed concerti with members of the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Cleveland Institute of Music Symphony Orchestra and the Roanoke Symphony Orchestras. An active orchestral member with the CIM Orchestra, she has also performed as principal harpist with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra and the New River Valley Orchestra.
Introducing Justin Hall from the Hall Trio:
Justin Hall is a student at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he is pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree in cello performance as a student of Richard Weiss. He has also studied with Alan Weinstein, Virginia Tech professor and member of the Kandinsky Trio. A top-prize winner, Mr. Hall has been awarded prizes such as the Virginia State Lions’ Club BLAND Award, the RYSO Young Artist’s Award, and the National Federation of Music Clubs Mary Alice Cox Award. As a soloist, Mr. Hall was invited to perform in concert with the Roanoke Youth Symphony Orchestra in 2013, and in 2014 he performed Haydn’s C Major Cello Concerto in concert with members of the CIM orchestra. He has also performed in classes with many renowned teachers and performers, including David Finckel, Nella Hunkins, and Zuill Bailey. When not in Cleveland, he can be found hiking Virginia summits along the Appalachian Trail.
Introducing Effie Hedrick:
Effie Hedrick has been enraptured with playing the violin for nearly twenty years and has found great joy in sharing her love of music through teaching the past ten. Most recently, her enthusiasm for playing led her and her now sister-in-law to form the duo-group Felice Strings. As a group they seek to bless listeners with music that uplifts and refreshes the soul. They serve a variety of events throughout the New River and Roanoke Valleys and were pleased to record their first album, “Whispers of Hope” in 2015. Over the years, Effie’s musical training grew beyond the scope of her bow and strings to include the soothing sounds of the Celtic harp as well as the beauty of the piano. Effie studied music at Patrick Henry College for two years where she gratefully joined her love for the violin with the skill of many other like-minded colleagues in the chamber orchestra. These two years were integral in forming the pedagogical techniques that she uses with her students today. She is now happily married and is working to complete her collegiate studies through Liberty University.
To find out who the other musicians and performers will be you’ll just have to attend and find out yourself!
Again this concert will be held at Calvary Memorial Church at 7pm in the Sanctuary on August 9th. I really hope to see all of you there!
FUNDRAISING UPDATE!
Since it is August 1st, I am announcing that my goal is to be fully funded by September 15th. I realize that the $5,668 I still need to raise is a big number, but I serve a mighty God who provides for our every need. I also know that in a matter of less than 4 months God provided over $10,000!! That is extraordinary!
Please join me in praying that this need is met. That God will provide in this way and that it will be an incredible witness to others.
If you feel that God is leading you to support me in this way I want to thank you. Your generosity means so much! I would not be where I am at without all of you.
Because of the generosity of a few *anonymous* donors, I am able to announce that all week if anyone donates it will be matched dollar for dollar up to $1500. Please consider donating this week whether that is $5.00 or $50.00. Everything counts and together we can raise $3000!
Thank you all for pouring into me with your prayers, support and generosity. Thank you for your encouragement. A missionary would fail without the support of it’s church family and support team so I thank you for how much I have been encouraged because of you.
Till next time,
Kara Faber
