Meet Chewbacca!

In October of 2015, I got asked multiple times by a student if I’d take home one of his puppies. His family’s dog had gotten pregnant accidentally and they couldn’t keep the puppies. I finally gave in and brought home a puppy October 30th.

What I found out over the course of the next week was that my puppy was only 5 weeks old and weened too early, and also a Pit-bull Australian-Cattle dog mix. But he was mine. It took me a day to decide what to name him. It was between Chomper (from Land Before Time) and Chewbacca (from Star Wars).

My team teases me because I talk about my puppy a lot. Every time I hear a story from my mom (who calls herself Grammy) or one of my siblings, every time I get a new picture, my team is the ones who get to hear all about it and all my excitement.

You see, I miss him. Chewie was a hard one to leave behind and I constantly make jokes and ask my team if my mom can bring me my dog to travel around the rest of the race with.

He’s become a spoiled pup, but he’s a great dog. He loves to run and play, and he’ll maybe rest for 5 minutes. He’s always excited to go on his early morning walks, and he’s learned how to herd the deer out of my mom’s yard (those stories are great!).

Chewbacca is my baby and he’s gonna be turning two a few weeks after I get home. It’s certainly crazy how fast the time has flown since I got him, but he’s stolen my heart along with my families.

My family knows I miss him and that’s a big reason why they share the stories and pictures. For Christmas I got the best present I could have gotten from my oldest brother, Joel. He put together a video of my Chewie. I hope you enjoy getting to see my little fella.

If you get to meet Chewbacca before I get back, make sure to give him a few treats and lots of love for me.

Till Next Time,
