One of the blessings this month is that my team is getting poured into spiritually by our ministry host Pastor Thomas. This past week, he spoke to us on the Will of God.
This message spoke to me in many ways not only because there is life after the race that I have to plan for, but also because where I am at right now is not a coincidence.
We can have all the money and resources to do something, but that doesn’t mean it is God’s will for us to do it. We can have the desire to go minister overseas, but that does not mean God is calling us to it. It is incredibly important that we align ourselves with God and discern what is and what is not His will.
In Ephesians 5:15-17, Paul warns us to guard against getting carried away by the world since the days they were living in were evil. The days we are living in are just as evil and it can be so easy for the world to carry us away, but God set us apart! We need to remember this and keep ourselves separate. As Romans 12 says, we are not to be conformed to this world.
So, why is it important that we not get carried away by the world? When we get carried away by the world, we lose sight of the will of God. This is why it is important to take things to God and saturate ourselves in His Word.
Why is it important to know the Will of God? Paul answered this question as well. In Galatians 2:20 he says “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.” Just as Christ lives in Paul, He also lives in all of those who have put their trust and faith in Him. This is why it is important to know the will of God.
Because Christ lives in us, we should be led by His will. This should urge us to ask God what He wants us to do. Our life is not about us, it is about revealing Christ through us.
We should also do the will of God because we are to each day be changing ourselves to be like Christ, and Jesus desired to do the will of His Father. (John 4:24, Matthew 7:21, Matthew 3:35, and Ephesians 5:15).
When we focus on the world, we stop moving forward with Christ. What a sad thing to know? I know that for myself, I don’t want to do anything that takes me away from Christ. A good example of man following the will of God is Moses. While traveling to the promised land, there came a point where he did not want to move forward if the presence of God did not go with him.
We also should be seeking God’s will because He knows what is best for us. He knows what to give us and where to lead us. His will is perfect. Now realize, HIS will is perfect. It does not mean that it will seem perfect and good to us because we may not understand.
If we are called by God, we will not have to run after it. It will come to us. God tells us over and over to have patience and to wait. Yes, we are to step out in faith, but we are to have the patience to wait for Him as well. (Matthew 20:1-6; 1 Samuel 16).
We also have to realize that we are instruments chosen by God. It is not by chance or coincidence that God has called me to the World Race. I may not feel qualified or equipped. I can look at my past and see all my mistakes which makes me say that, but God does not see that when He looks at me. God sees His perfect Son because He has not only forgiven me of my sins, He has erased my past and forgotten it. If God has forgotten it, then who am I to remember it? Who am I? Instead of looking at our pasts, we should be looking and focusing our eyes on God!
I also want to remind you all to have faith and be faithful. If God has promised, He will not only fulfill His promises but is ABLE to do so. Have faith to do even the smallest of things because when we are faithful in the small things, He will give us more.
God will also confirm His will. I could give so many examples of this, but here is one that just really stands out to me. When I signed up for the race, $16,561 was an extremely high amount of money to raise. But in less than 4 months, I was fully funded. God confirmed that the Race was where He was leading me during this season of my life.
So have faith and pursue God’s will because the life we live is all about bringing glory to Him and revealing the Kingdom to those around us.
Till Next Time,
Kara Faber
