Adventures in Missions (AIM) has organized the World Race to be for adults 21-35. It is a long term mission trip for them as well as a year of, hopefully, continual growth in Christ. It’s a spiritual journey.
Because of this, our parents and friends are not supposed to make trips overseas to the countries we will be in just to see us. It distracts us from our purpose and goal of coming.
What AIM has planned with the World Race, however, is a five day time period sometime during month 7 through 9 for Racers to invite their parents and have them come do ministry with them and they call this the Parent Vision Trip (PVT).
PVT is not for all parents. The Racer first has to choose if they want to invite their parents and then it’s determined by the parents if they accept the invitation to come or not.
I first heard about PVT at training camp last August and I wasn’t sure then if I’d invite my mom. The cost of the trip isn’t covered by the money I raised and the amount that you pay AIM doesn’t cover the airfare to or from the country, so I knew that the trip would be expensive.
But Launch came around last October and my mom came with me to that. That was an incredibly sweet time that I had with my mom, and I decided then and there that if my mom wanted to come I was going to invite her. Funny thing is that my mom said the same thing. If I wanted her to come and invited her, she would be there.
Racers don’t get emails about PVT asking if they want to invite their parents till the end of month 5, but our emails didn’t come till month 6 when I was in Zambia. At this point it was already a definite thing that I would be inviting my mom and that she was coming. She was already planning to travel with my teammate Elise’s mom, Mrs. Swepston. I also had a list made of what I wanted her to bring for me and I was thinking of all the things I’d send home with her too.
Well… My mom is flying out today with Mrs. Swepston on their way to Dublin, Ireland. They will spend a couple days there before meeting us in Dragonesti-Olt, Romania on Saturday the 17th.
During our time together we will do ministry along side each other, have unstructured time together and debrief the days with other racers parents. It’s going to go by faster than I want it to, but I’m still looking forward to it non the less.
Why? Because it’s been 252 days since I last gave my mom a hug or saw her in person and in just 5 days I’ll get to do that. The excitement is so incredibly real. So real.
Till Next Time,
Kara Faber
P.S. – I’ll be writing a blog next week on how PVT is going so stay tuned!!!
