Forming words, thoughts even, in Thailand has been incredibly difficult.

How do you explain the spiritual darkness of a country nearly completely blinded from the Gospel? How do you explain the melancholy, echoing chants of the monks nearby? The prestigious golden temples and intricate spirit houses? How do you convey the smell of burning incense, withering off a string of poignant smell in dedication to a spirit or Buddha? Or how about the gut-wrenching reality of the brothels lining the night streets? Children being sold? Sold? The blind, the crippled, the desperate begging, dancing, singing in an attempt to make a few baht?

My heart breaks for this country every single day, over and over again.

But I can’t acknowledge these hard truths without acknowledging the sweet truths as well.

God has filled, literally filled, Thailand with beauty. The majestic mountains, the smiling faces, the exotic animals, the torrential greenery. Waterfalls soar over cliffs screaming out His majesty, the flittering butterflies hinting at His glory. The impact of Remember Nhu and Lighthouse beaming with a beckon of His bright light. God is here. The God of the universe; the Creator, the Artist of Thailand. He has not forgotten about this land, this people.

These two sets of truths have often left me utterly speechless. I have never felt so sad and disgusted, yet so completely in love.

So I will the use the words, the thoughts I am able to form to ask for your prayers. Pray for Thailand. Pray through the brokenness, the heartache and pain, the presence of the enemy. But more importantly, pray for continued revelation, for more of the Holy Spirit’s presence, for lives to be transformed.

Father you are so holy. Thank you for the blessings of beauty that overflow from Thailand. Thank you for the sons and daughters you have called here that are laboring for your name every single day. Thank you that you have not forgotten about this country. God captivate the hearts of the lost Thai people. Bring them nearer to you, show them your glory. Save lives God, like only you can.

Love,
Kara
