We were asked to write a Blog about how we were called to this mission trip.
Are you ready?
Here is My story:
I grew up as an MK (Missionary Kid) and a PK (Pastors Kid) my whole life and when my family decided to move from Austria to the States, for my dad and us kids to finish up school, I thought that was the end of missions for me. Well so I thought. The seed was planted, it just took some time for me to follow God’s plan.
In March of 2008, I went on a High School Mission trip to Mexico with Rolling Hills Community Church as a Leader, to build a house for a family. God worked through us to complete the house and it wouldn’t have been possible without Him. The last day when we handed over the keys to the family, I saw their faces and how thankful they were and I know that God showed His love to them through our group. That experience made a huge impact on my life and I started to think about how I could show God’s love to people in this world all the time.
When I got back to my comfortable life and the weeks that followed, that feeling really started to fade and nothing much became of it at that point. Working my job and following weekly routines I knew that there was something more that I should be doing. One day I googled 1-2 year missions trips and came across the World Race and remembered that one of my friends (yeah Eric) had gone on the World Race a couple years ago. I got in touch with him and asked some questions about it, but didn’t apply at that time. It was always in the back of my mind and I wanted to apply, but the comforts of my life really held me back. I really started to pray hard about what God wanted me to do with my life and the World Race kept sounding more and more like an option. Also, everything that I was worried about losing or having to give up started to become less and less important. I decided that I would apply and if God wanted me to go on this trip I would be accepted.
I’m so thankful that God does not give up on anyone and that He is right there next to us and we just need to listen and follow Him.
This is my story.
