Welcome!

If you’re reading this page that means you are part of my life and my heart, even if we have never met face-to-face.

I’m Kaiulani Houston and I am a proud member of the Body of Christ!  The purpose of my life is to glorify the infinitely kind and loving God and water the seeds of love that God has already planted in the hearts of those I meet.

Looking at my name you may think that I am Hawaiian, from Houston, TX, and/or are related to Whitney Houston.  None of these assumptions are correct, although I love the Aloha state, I have never been to Houston, TX but I hear it’s a great town, and Whitney Houston is one of my favorite artists of all times!

I’m a North Carolina native born in the “Harbor of Hospitality” (the slogan on the water tower in Elizabeth City, NC) and I absolutely love my state, particularly its waterfront.

I attended college at the amazing Hampton University in Hampton, Va.  We Hamptonians lovingly refer to it as our “Home by the sea.”  (I’m sure you can tell by now that I plan my life based on the proximity of great bodies of water.)   I earned a B.S. in chemistry and planned to attend medical school right after college.  God, however, had a different plan…

Instead of going to medical school, first I went to graduate school.  This summer I will earn my Ph.D. in chemistry. When most people hear “Ph.D.” or “chemistry research” they don’t automatically think “mission-field” and “God’s divine plan” but I have come to associate these things. God used this time to slow me down (spiritually) and turn my attention back toward Him.  He is showing me that medical research and missions are just as much my passions as healing the human body; in fact they are all one and the same!

God introduced me to missionary work through my friend Rachel, who is a missionary with World Harvest Ministries.  I visited her on the missions field really just out of curiosity.  I left filled with a light and joy I had never known before. I knew at that point with my level of excitement and more importantly peace, that missions work was in my future.

A year later, my father sent me an email about the World Race.  His support is a miracle in and of itself so I paid close attention.  Through prayer, I applied and the support and love of the interview staff alone let me know that I was in the right place!  I am ready to glorify God as well as be healed through this next chapter of my life that God ordained.

I still plan to attend medical school when I return from the race and I know these steps that I originally viewed as detours were in God’s plan all along to make me a better vessel for His glory here and abroad!

I hope you will partner with me through prayer, encouragement and/or financial support on this journey of telling people that “life more abundantly”  (John 10:10) is still God’s plan for every human being on this planet!

If you have any prayer requests, send them my way and I will “go boldly to the throne of grace that you may find mercy and grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)
