Part of my reasons for going on the World Race was to seek
if there was a calling on my life to be a missionary.  As a little girl I was fascinated by missionaries and always
thought I would end up in the middle of an African tribe starting an
orphanage.   Even when I left North America I thought
stepping on Kenyan soil would result in a cosmic connection that would forever
bind my heart to Africa.  As it
turns out, it was never the life of the missionary that attracted me, but the
stories of what God was doing overseas that made me want to abandon the
American dream.

And so the story of Kenya has little to do with the Kenyans,
and all to do with faith.  This was
the first month on the race where I stepped back from the doing aspect of what
ministry is and sat at the feet of the Lord and asked Him to teach me.  And teach me He did.  The Lord taught me of His love that is
the root of the power of His Spirit.
He opened my eyes to a spiritual realm that is unseen but more tangible
than any object.  The power of our
words was revealed and how they affect both the seen and unseen.  The Lord revealed a new depth of
community and what living as a part of a healthy body looks like.  He romanced me through the beauty of
His creation (again).  He brought
new life to His Word as I began to read about the early church in Acts and the
works of the Spirit in Paul’s epistles.
(p.s. if you want your world to be shattered simply read John [chapter
14 in particular], Acts, Romans, and the Corinthians as if all that is in there
actually happened…and we still have the power to do so today…we would have a
lot more teleporting, healed, and transformed people to say to the least).

In other words, I am completely and utterly captured by God,
and could not be more grateful for Kenya.
I was right about Kenya, there would be something that my heart would
become forever bound to, only it is not one place or people group, it is one
God who I am simply intimately consumed by and I quite frankly cannot get
enough of.  Now I am ready to walk
the streets of Uganda with a refreshed faith and just wait to see what will
happen.
