Ministry in Ecuador was absolutely amazing. Here are some photos from the month of February. The reason for pictures of ministry coming at the end of the month is because I want to honor the people we are working with by allowing the “documentation” of the trip to come later and the relationship to come first. Enjoy!
This is the incredible family that we lived with and did ministry with! Each play a vital role in the ministry of Joel Osteen Academy, the school we worked at!
Here are my teammates on one of the highest active volcanoes, Cotopaxi.
I spent a lot of my time this month teaching grammar to the older kids. This is the 2nd Jr. High (similar to junior year of high school). I was blessed with the opportunity to also teach them about the origin and outline of the Bible as well as my testimony.
The 1st Jr. High class. They have awesome nicknames for each other. They are the cool kids.
The 10th graders! This class blew my mind with how much they wanted to know about Jesus! In fact, one day when I was the History teacher (random, I know) I taught them about the history within the Old Testament and they ate it up! They also actually did my extra homework assignments I gave them (granted they got Oreos, but I was still impressed with them!)
9th grade. This class had some of the sweetest kids I have ever met!
8th grade. The first day we got to the school to do ministry this class laughed at me (literally for like five minutes). I was so afraid of going back to them, only to find out they were one of my favorite classes to both teach and hang out with!
7th grade. These are the kiddos I spent the most time with because we also had homework time at the end of the day. Lots of funny stories going through my mind.
6th grade. Adore them. One day we wrote their favorite verses in English on the board and found the nouns, adverbs, adjectives, ect. Possibly one of my favorite times teaching grammar.
This is the grammar teacher, Katherine. She graciously accepted me as an addition to her classes and allowed me to teach the tough stuff. Building a relationship with her and getting to know her was one of the highlights of the month.
For the last week I was surprised to find out my assignment changed from grammar teacher to pre-kinder teacher. Oh yes, they wanted me to teach in only English to three and four year olds that did not speak any English. It was a blast and very difficult. I learned a lot during this week!
Maybe it got easier to love these little ones….
And in case you were wondering, I love corn. One day I wanted to open up a can of corn. After searching for a can opener I finally broke down and just asked the woman I was living with. Only to be informed they use a knife and a rock to open up cans. Here is my attempt. no bueno.
