Hi I’m Kaitlyn and I’m about as extroverted as you can get so I thrive when it comes to being around new people. Lucky for me, new friends are made all the time on the race. In many places, we attract a lot of attention because we are white Americans. People want to come and talk to us to practice their English, take a picture, or just because they are curious. While we’ve enjoyed the funny stories and opportunities to share what we are doing with these people, it is always enjoyable to meet other Americans abroad.
This past week, we got to meet not only Americans, but other World Racers and it was AWESOME. The Lord’s presence absolutely filled every space we occupied. We had a joke/challenge to see how many questions you could ask someone before you asked their name because we would often get so excited talking about Jesus that we would know about a miracle a person witnessed or an incredible conversion story before we knew a person’s name. Shoutout to X Squad, A Squad, and Gap-N for all the awesome stories, worship times, devotionals, testimonies, and fun over the last week.
I had the privilege of serving as a Worship Coordinator for the Awakening and it was incredible! I got to work alongside so many talented musicians and got to be just a tiny part of the worship sessions that absolutely set people’s hearts ablaze for the Lord. Our last night of Awakening, we started worship out with a hype song led by Jonathan, a new friend from A Squad. The second his voice came over the microphone, the entire crowd was amped and ready to praise the Lord.
Now, Jonathan is not your typical World Racer. Why, you might ask? He’s married! If you, like me, are intrigued and want to learn more about what it looks like to go on a journey like this as a married couple, check out the Shears’ blog here! They also have to fundraise twice as much since there are two of them and they could use your help in praying for their fundraising. If you feel called to donate to their journey, feel free to do so on their blog! God is doing amazing things through them and all of A squad!
A few more friends from A squad that we got to spend time with that are still in the fundraising process are Zach and Tim. They had an interesting month 3 that involved switching teams unexpectedly due to extreme altitude sickness. In just four months, Zach has been to the hospital 6 TIMES. Clearly he is doing incredible things for the kingdom because the enemy is attacking him so adamantly. You can check out Zach’s blogs and Tim’s blogs and/or donate to their journeys here (Zach) and here (Tim).
Our squad also seemed to have a cool relationship with X squad. We all went to training camp together and even though we didn’t all know each other, it was cool to reconnect. We are almost brother/sister squads.
Hanging out with all four squads at Awakening just seemed so natural, almost as if we had all known each other forever. The family of God is full of brothers and sisters that come from all over and I believe that Heaven will look a lot like this past week.
