Wait What?

You want me to be a Worship Coordinator?

This question came as a pretty big surprise to me at training camp as I have not played an instrument since middle school band and I am NOT a good singer. Like, for real, ask Ben Showalter how terrible I am as a vocalist if you don’t believe me. If I had to pick a job for myself, Worship Coordinator would have been very low on my list. I would have picked Logistics or maybe Treasurer for myself but never Worship Coordinator.

In the last few days at Launch, I have been reminded time and time again that God has put me in this position for a reason. God doesn’t need us to be wonderful singers. He doesn’t call for us to have perfect pitch or hit amazing high notes, he simply calls for us to make a joyful noise to Him (Psalm 98:4, Psalm 100:1). Now, noise I can definitely supply and I can be joyful about it. Worship isn’t about the way you sing or even what you sing, it is about giving all your praises to God. Worship doesn’t even have to be musical! In Worship Coordinator training, we practiced centering prayer and using art, coloring specifically, as a form of worship. Now, if you know me, you know art might be the lowest activity on the list of hobbies I enjoy but that’s not the point. The point is that worship helps connect you to God and glorify Him. It can and should look different for everyone because everyone has a different relationship with the Father. This position that seemed like a terrible fit for me is turning into an opportunity to explore my own definition of worship and now I’m excited to get out on the field and start my role as a Worship Coordinator with my lovely co-leader Monica.

As a general update, I head to Colombia with the rest of Y Squad very early tomorrow morning (August 7th). I am so excited to finally start this journey after basically spending the last 3 months saying goodbye. I said my final goodbye to my parents today and they headed back to Corpus. Everything is just beginning to feel real and I think on Monday it will really hit that we are actually about to do this crazy 11-month thing. And just a reminder, I won’t be using social media until about mid-September so be sure to check my blog for updates!
