I officially decided to go on the World Race a year ago today.

Yesterday I signed autographs for about 50 5th graders… I definitely didn’t know that would be a part of this year.

Today I talked to a few Ukrainian teenagers about Twenty One Pilots, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings and then sang “Here I am to Worship” while one of them played the guitar.

A year ago today, I couldn’t even imagine all the things that I would experience.

A year ago today, I didn’t know any of these people that have become my family.

A year ago today, I didn’t know I would teach human reproduction to 8th graders in Ecuador.

A year ago today, I didn’t know I would find it hard to say goodbye so many times.

A year ago today, I didn’t know that I would play charades with high school students in Ukraine.

A year ago today, I didn’t know I would fall in love with teaching English.

A year ago today, I didn’t know I would jump around dancing and singing to Cambodian three-year olds in an attempt to teach them English.

A year ago today, I didn’t know I would wash blankets with my feet in Peru.

A year ago today, I didn’t know I would make lifelong friends in Indonesia.

A year ago today, I didn’t know that I would get to see amazing places like Machu Picchu and Angkor Wat.

A year ago today, I didn’t know I would peel more potatoes than I had ever seen all across South America.

A year ago today, I thought I knew what I was signing up for but the World Race has been different than everything I anticipated. The Lord has walked me through struggles with trust and vulnerability, my desire to be in control, and my need to always have a plan. He has changed the way I value myself and taught me more than I ever thought possible about love.

A year from today, I will be a vet student. While this may seem boring or just very “normal” compared to the life I am living now, I am excited for this next adventure because God is the same in College Station, Texas as He is Krements, Ukraine.

While the next year of my life will surely look drastically different than this year, I am excited to continue serving the Lord wherever He has me.
