Verses of the Month: “I will cleanse them of their sins against me and forgive all their sins of rebellion. Then this city will bring me joy, glory, and honor before all the nations of the earth! The people of the world will see all the good I do for my people, and they will tremble with awe at the peace and prosperity I provide for them.” Jeremiah 33:8-9.
“Humanly speaking it is impossible. But not with God. Everything is possible with God.” Mark 10:27
Favorite Food: Monkey Bread! We cooked every single meal this month, used half our food budget, and never went hungry. I got to make monkey bread twice for breakfast and it was delicious.
Hardship of the Month: There weren’t many hardships for me this month. But, I would say that the hardest thing would have to be the cold. It was about 12 degrees outside (on average) and we spent 4-5 hours walking from village to village almost everyday.
Our Ministry: Ministry this month has been amazing. Our job was simply to love, pray, and proclaim truth. We went to the gypsy villages everyday, bringing clothing, food, and playing with the children. We prayed over every house hold we entered and left our blessing in that place. We had either a Bible study or worship session everyday, we prayed more than we ever have, and we saw God move in ridiculous ways.
Cultural Moments:
- Hello means goodbye and goodbye means hello.
- They ask you what your name is by saying, “My name is?” and pointing at you.
- You can tell if a gypsy family is wealthy by the number of extravagant dishes they have all over the house. Also, if they have many carpets and piles of pillows.
- I can spot Jesus in every house… It’s like where’s Waldo.
- Everybody talks with passion here. And by that I mean, everybody yells.
- The most common mode of transportation is a horse and wagon.
- The only way to cook a full pig is by blowtorch.
- Every village has a one stop shop complete with booze, butter, bread, and firewood.
- Ashley says that the “home chocolate” smells like poo and tastes like fudge… Ashley is the only one who buys it.
- It is common knowledge that when you come over for dinner, that also means you are staying the night… Yet, it was a surprise to us…
Favorite Moment: Seeing someone healed!!! We prayed over a lady with a bad heart and God healed her! Her feet which were once blue turned to normal before our eyes. We went back to see her the other day and she was perfectly fine. Praise God!
What God Taught Me: God has shown me that prayer is necessary and holds great power. That when we spend time in prayer together, we can expect great things to happen. Also, that God has and will take me to places that seem impossible.
Guess what… It’s time for Africa!!!
