Favorite Quote of the month: “On the World Race, gas is the root of all evil”

Favorite Moment: While in a classroom full of 6 year olds, I was letting a group of little boys and girls use their “doctor set” on me. Things started to get intense as more and more kids were shoving to “doctor me”, so I did what any one would do… I played dead. While laying there, lifeless, kids were trying to wake me up. One girl had enough and started screaming, “Katassssina!” as loud as she could in my face. Needless to say, my laughter gave me away.

Our Ministry: Our ministry this month was sort of scattered. In the mornings we were working with Compassion International children. In the afternoons we were making house visits and evangelizing. And at night, we were visiting different small groups of the church. Of course on Sundays, we were performing a musical number.

Hardship of the Month: I’m REALLY tired of not being able to understand anyone. I know it is only the beginning (9 more months of it), but a lot of the other teams have Spanish speakers or translators. It is so frustrating to have something from the Lord that you want to say, but you are unable to communicate it. I’ve been praying for the ability to speak Spanish fluently. Hasn’t happened yet… Still holding out 🙂

Strange Foods I Ate: Sheep, duck, Quinoa juice, chicken feet, quail eggs, yucca, and raw sugar cane.

Strange Happenings: My things would randomly get washed while I was out doing ministry. One day, I found my black TOMS washed and placed in my room in their spot. Another day, my pillow case was washed… How did my host know it needed washing?

Favorite Word: La bumpe, meaning “the butt”. The little girl who we live with likes to call us “the butt”.

Verse of the Month: Matthew 16:5-12. Here’s what I learned from it- Don’t focus in the bread! When we do, we show that we have little faith and miss the point of what God is trying to tell us. Move past the little stuff (bread) and on to the feast that He sets before us.

What I am thankful for this month: My teammates who love me no matter what I do or how I act because they love the Jesus inside me, God’s everlasting love, the ability to dance, my health, the ability to sing, walk and run, a comfortable bed and a shelf to put all my stuff on, a bathroom with running water, a car ride every once in a while, having a home where I feel safe, and of course internet… So I can talk to you.

Love you guys. Seek the Lord. Those who seek shall surely find… And it’s good 🙂

Grace and Peace,

Katalina

Trujillo is the place to make shoes. Here we are in the house of a shoemaker.

Another view of the house. This is what most houses look like. Many don’t have roofs over the kitchens so that they can cook in them, as you can see below.

She is cooking on an open flame on the floor of her home… You have it good America.

We got to go to Huaticocha Beach. It was beautiful.

That’s me, surfing! And that’s my teacher behind me.

They gave us short wet suits… About 40 minutes in, I couldn’t feel my arms and legs anymore.
