Life in Malaysia has definitely been wonderful. We have only been here since the night of the 31st and I can already say that if God wanted me to move here, I would not mind.
Our ministry this month is all over Penang and we are all scattered about amongst the two teams that are living here in George Town. The ministries that we are able to take part in are serving at a coffee shop and building relationships with the customers, mostly geared towards college aged students; visit cancer patients at the local hospital and working on raising money for the cancer and heart funds; going to the homeless shelter where we prepare and serve food to people; evangelizing every Wednesday night to the people on the streets of George Town; and being involved in PenHOP through the worship and prayer services that they have set up. We are all over the place and I am so excited about the different ministries that we can be involved in. I am so encouraged by what God is already doing here in George Town and the people that have started these ministries.
So far this week, I was involved in participating in PenHOP’s Worship Through the Word night where they read scripture and worshiped by singing songs about it. We read Revelation 19 and they were just singing the verses and it was incredible. I have never read the Word that way, and I was just so encouraged by how God is working in the lives of His children here and how much the Spirit is moving in their lives. I went to an orientation on the organization that helps with the homeless and learning more about how to share the gospel with the culture here. It was really informative because there is such a high Muslim population here. I also participated in evangelizing to the people on the streets.
We started off by praying for the groups that were going out and for God’s Spirit to really show us which people He wanted us to encounter this night, for hearts to be softened, and for us to have our hearts feel the anguish that our Father feels for His children. We were going out to speak to His children that were involved in prostitution, Lady Boys, those that did not have a home for the night, backpackers, families and any others that the Lord wanted us to share Love with. My group consisted of some other World Racers and some from a DTS YWAM team. We went to a Buddhist temple and prayed. We ended up running into a woman that could not speak, hair that was a hot mess and was very fragile and skinny. Our leader asked if I would come up and pray for her, and I did. I found out that this woman had never been seen around here before.
God, I just pray that You reach out to this woman and shower her in Your love, wrap her up in Your arms. Father, I pray that You bless her and protect her. In Your Name I pray.
I want to see this woman again. The look on her face of hopelessness, loss and abandonment, I want to share with her Hope, Love, Joy, Peace, Comfort, Truth. She is loved and always will be.
The past couple of days of ministry have been exhausting, but rewarding. We went to the hospital and after learning about the different things we will be doing there, we went out and fundraised. Yes, I did not spend 7 months fundraising for nothing, so why not do some more? This time we were raising money for the Children’s Heart Fund so that children that need surgery or procedures done for their hearts can have money to pay for it. The hospital is a private hospital, but allows 50 children to come and receive surgery at no cost. This is a huge blessing to those that cannot afford it and to be able to be off the waiting list of over 300 and receive the help and care that they need. The people that went split up into 2 teams and competed to raise the most money. We went around just asking people to donate and it was a strange concept because we were the white Americans, who are supposed to have the money, asking patients and those visiting patients for money. However, it was a huge blessing because it was not my will being done and even though it may have been uncomfortable, it was God’s will that was being done and helping others be funded. Also, my team won at the end of the day. Both teams raised 512.20 Ringgit in 3 hours. Praise God! On other hospital days, we will be arriving in the mornings and walking around visiting patients and praying for them! I am so excited for the next time we go!
When went to the homeless shelter we arrived in the middle of worship, prayed for one another’s families, and cooked food for people. The meal was interesting. We first started off by chopping off the toenails of chicken feet. Oh. My. ‘Lasia! That was disgusting. I quickly changed stations when offered. I went to peel onions instead. I may have been crying but I was so excited to not be hearing and feeling the crunch of bones underneath my fingers. After all the food was prepared, we scooped up the rice, chicken feet and tofu mixture, eggs and onion deliciousness all onto plates and served them to the people that came to receive a meal. After everyone was served, I tried it. I ate a chicken foot. I don’t ever have to try it again.
Tonight we get to participate in a 3-hour prayer burn at PenHOP. I am really excited, one because 3 hours of devoted prayer and worship, and we get to stay up really late, 1am late. I am so excited to see what happens tonight!
Prayers: For the different ministries, people, organizations, and the people running the ministries in George Town. For our team, Ascend the Hill.
Praise that Chip is pass the amount needed for this deadline in fundraising, continue to pray for Ga’Nene to meet the deadline.
Thank you, I love you all!
Love, Kaitlyn Michele
