Training Camp 101: Just go for it.

8 people with 1 large bowl of soup for breakfast and no silverware? Just go for it.

Never had a bucket shower? Just go for it.

Your too lazy to walk up to the port a potties and want to pee in the woods? Just go for it.

Scared to death to open up to people you have only know for a day? Just go for it.

8 people on a beach towel trying to move around each other in their hot sweaty mess and the only way to succeed is one big group hug? Just go for it.

I kid you not, I could go on forever about situations that my only response was, “Just go for it.” After all, 40 different people entered into 10 days in the middle of no where, knowing no one, and experiencing things we never had before. What else can you do but just go for it?

Actually, rewind for a moment. Because since the start of this whole thing, since the first day that God put on my heart to go on the world race, He continually whispers to me “JUST GO FOR IT.” Okay, so maybe its more of a scream when I get really stubborn and don’t want to move forward.

I can promise you that no one on my squad knows what in the hell we are doing. All we know is that God asked us to go and so we are doing it. We’ve never done this before, we don’t know what to expect, we don’t know the outcome. But we are going for it. And because of that, after 10 days in the wood of just going for it, our squad of 40 has become a family. Despite the fears. Despite the insecurities. Despite the questions. Despite the doubts. We are just going for it. And we’ll see what God decides to do with our willingness to just go for it.

I had to do a lot of processing for myself after I got home from training camp. Because I walked out of camp in more fear than I have ever experienced. Fear of failing, of not being good enough, of not being strong enough. Fear of the unexpected, for the lack of control, for what God was going to do or not do. All I could see is the humongous monster of fear that was rearing its head. And then God showed me something. I have been in fear since this trip started. BUT, with every step, I have chosen obedience over familiarity. I have chosen to look at the fear and say, Even so, I will be courageous.

He said to me, “Its okay that you are afraid. But you are never safer than when you are in my arms. It’s okay that you are fearful of whats to come, but know that I make you brave. If you will focus your eyes on me, I will help you to walk on the waves, to press deeper. I know that you are scared. But nothing pleases my heart more than when my children choose to believe me, DESPITE their fears and doubts. Just keep going for it. I am walking by your side, and we will do this together. Step by Step. Just go for it”

So, whatever it is that you are facing in Life, whatever it is that God is calling you to  do to press deeper. JUST GO FOR IT.
