Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perserverance the race marked out for us.

Hebrews 12:1

“Let us run with perserverance the race marked out for us.” Leave behind the hurt, anger, fear, rejection, jealousy, and sin that so easily entangles you, drags you down, leave it behind. Run to the Lord, we are a new creation through Him and by Him we are set free, forgiven, loved, and the heavy burdens of our sins is lifted. Run the race that the Lord has marked out for you because you can make as many plans as your heart desires but the Lord will establish the steps.

Many people try to avoid the race God has given them such as Jonah did. God commanded Jonah to go to Ninevah to proclaim the Lord’s message to the sinful people of the big city. But instead Jonah fled and disobeyed God. After being thrown overboard by the crew of the ship he was on, he was then swallowed by a big fish and was in its stomach for three days and three nights. After asking for forgiveness the Lord came to Jonah a second time and again told him to go to Ninevah and give the people His message. Jonah obeyed and went. He walked through the city proclaiming, “forty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown.” The ninevites turned from their ways, called to God and He did not overthrow the city.

Now you’re probably thinking, okay I know the story of Jonah..so what about it? Well, the Lord marked out the race for Jonah by going to Ninevah to save the people from their evil ways and turn to God. But Jonah ran a completely different direction and God still established Jonah’s steps to run the race the Lord had for him.

So what is your race going to be? Are you going to run with perserverance for the Lord, leave sin, follow Him, and forget your old ways? Or are you going to run the opposite direction?
