Dear Kaitlyn (of the past),
The person you are now isn’t the same person you’ll be in a year, two years, five years.
The person you are now will grow and evolve, if you are willing to let it.
The person you are now will be moulded into something more beautiful than it has ever been, more Christ-like than you could ever imagine.
If you’re willing, the person you are now will be whittled down to allow a renewed, redeemed being take it’s place.
This doesn’t mean that you’ll never struggle with your humanity – on your own you will still be selfish, impatient, sullen, bad-tempered, overbearing, “not enough”… the list goes on.
But remember this: you don’t have to do it on your own.
From this moment you will go on to discover wonderful things about yourself, about other people, and about Jesus.
You will go on to do incredible things in His name.
And most importantly, you will go on to learn how to walk in and live out what Jesus is calling you to – you will begin to discover how every day is a new day to learn of His mercies, and how you will never lose His love for you because of the things you do.
Remember these truths with each mistake, each slip-up, each tumble back down the slope.
Pick yourself back up, grab hold of His hand again, and keep walking in His strength instead of your own.
And don’t forget…
You are selfless, not selfish.
You are patient, not impatient.
You are joyful, not sullen.
You are full of peace, not bad-tempered.
You are just right – not overbearing or “not enough”.
Love,
21-year-old Kaitlyn
