My team and I spent the first 5 days in Kathmandu, the capital. We got acquainted with our Ministry contact and worked with Asha Nepal, a ministry that seeks to reach out to those that are trafficked in Nepal.
We were able to explore the city and got to fly around Mt. Everest early one morning.
Our team is stationed with a church 3 hours Northeast of Kathmandu in a small town called Kothe, pronounced “Ko- tee,” close to the Tibet border where there is any kind of adventure you could dream of, even the World’s Tallest Rope Swing. We are on the edge of a riverbank, surrounded by green Mountains. We’re able to do our quiet-times by the river. Some mornings we wake up, thinking that it may be raining when, in all actuality, it’s the sound of the rushing river.
I don’t think we could be in a more beautiful spot. It’s a dream location for Ministry, in the Himalayas. Every turn of the road, and spot on paths are incredibly beautiful.
Our ministry this month will consist of hiking into the mountains each day and talking with the locals. Our first two days we talked to people who had no idea who Jesus Christ is. And talked with them, prayed for them and invited them to our church.
So, we’ve handed out tracts. Yesterday we went about 4 miles into a village. One man was chanting words for his Hindu ritual. I walked over and gave him a tract and a smile. Our translator said to me, “You are brave!” and I replied, “I’m just being intentional about reaching everyone I can.” He said “that was a Hindu priest.”
Fear doesn’t present itself to me in these cases. God is with us. In all situations, everywhere we go. All over the world. In the valleys, He is there. Up on the mountain tops, He is there. When we are exhausted from hiking up mountains to get into the villages, He is there. It’s not about bravery, or who someone may think deserves it, its about reaching everyone for the Glory of Christ. And that’s what our intentions are.
Our team gets an hour of worship and prayer in the mornings and 5 of us now have guitars, so we’re each practicing often with newly acquired worship songs. The only thing we’ve had to think about is getting rid of more things in our pack to make the new weight of things even out. But to have a guitar along with me, its WORTH it. I’ll get rid of clothes. Being able to play and worship with others is exciting and its one of my favorite things.
