Throughout this month, we have had a lot of down time. We eat breakfast at 7 every morning and the kids don’t come until 11am. Then at 1pm they leave and we have the rest of the day to do whatever. This allows for a lot of reflection time which is good.
We have listened to some teachings and people speak since being here. The one thing that has stuck out to me is to train your eye and heart to see the little things in life. The little things are just as important as the great big things that happen.
We have so much to be thankful for each and every day. It’s easy to forget that sometimes when things get hard, but if you sit back and truly reflect on all the things that have happened in just the past few weeks, you’ll be amazed.
A couple of weeks ago, we did an outreach in Jazmin, a town nearby Los Guido. One of the things the ministry focuses on is discipleship, so they travel to nearby towns and go through a discipleship training with any child or adult who is willing. We took three different buses to get there, met up with random girls who knew us, walked up a mountain, and finally reached the town. From there, we split into two groups and headed different directions. My group went to three different houses and one store. One house we went to, there were three children doing the discipleship training. So they had to memorize bible verses each week, recite them and work their way through different books. The family was so incredibly sweet. You could tell there was not a lot of money throughout the town, but with what little money they had, they bought us soda and genuinely cared about us. They love God with all of their hearts and even though they don’t have much in the sense of material items, they have everything because they have faith and love.
This really opened my eyes. God truly is great. He will provide if you follow and trust Him. Thinking of this makes me think of the song “World’s Greatest” by R. Kelly. Now you’re probably wondering what a rapper has to do with this. But that specific song is one of the greatest worship songs I’ve ever heard.
“I am a giant
I am an eagle
I am a lion
Down in the jungle
I am a marchin’ band
I am the people
I am a helpin’ hand
And I am a hero
If anybody asks you who I am
Just stand up tall, look ’em in the face and say
I’m that star up in the sky
I’m that mountain peak up high
Hey, I made it
I’m the worlds greatest
And I’m that little bit of hope
When my back’s against the ropes
I can feel it, I’m the world’s greatest”
He truly is the greatest and you can see that in everday life. Whether it be the smile of a child, the sun shining down on you, or laughter among friends, be thankful. Find the joy in this short life. Don’t forget about the little things.

Kaitlin
