Month 2 is two weeks in and off to a great start!! We are working with the Christian Light Foundation in Los Guido, Costa Rica. The organization does a variety of different ministries focusing on discipleship and evangelism. They run a feeding center from 11am to 1pm, which also provides a hot meal to an average of 200 kids per day. For many of these kids, it is their only meal of the day.
This month is all squad month, so that means the entire squad is in one location. We have approximately 40 people in one large room, living, eating, and breathing together. It’s a challenge at times, but I’m embracing and loving the experience. Even though we are in one place, the ministries of our teams are still very different. Within Los Guido, our squad is working in 3 different schools (sectors 2,3,7), helping with the feeding center, and a designated prayer team.
My team is helping with the feeding center and remaining at the finca (what they call the place we are staying at). We help maintain the building with a variety of chores and during the feeding center times, we are outside playing with the kids that come. We take out activities such as hula hoop, nail polish, coloring, football, soccer, etc.
I feel absolutely blessed to be able to spend time with these kids and get to know them. But most importantly to show them they are loved by the Father.
Every day the kids run down the hill of the finca and high five or hug us and to see the joy in their eyes is remarkable.
I’m really enjoying this month! There will be another blog post to follow soon! Thank you for all of the continuous prayers and love for my squad. But please keep the people of Los Guido in your thoughts and prayers, they continue to live in a place of violence and hatred.
Xoxo,
Kaitlin
