When you hear the words kids club you think of elementary aged kids, right? Well, in Romania it doesn’t necessarily mean that. My team and I found this out the hard way.
Our host had told us to prepare a lesson and song for a kids club we were going to be doing on Saturday (Yesterday, 9/23/17). So, we thought, “let’s do David and Goliath, it will be easy to act out for little kids even with a language barrier” and we had planned to sing a few songs. One of them being, “Our God is so big, so strong, and so mighty.” We were solid. Our plan was set and hopefully the kids would understand everything. Saturday rolls around and we walk outside to meet the so called “kids” and see teenagers. Those were not quite the kids we had planned a lesson for! As we are taking in this new news, my squad leader, Kirsten, turns to me and says “this is world race to a T.” So we ended up just reading David and Goliath and then having a discussion about it and afterwards, playing a couple games.
It ended up being really fun getting to know these Romanian teenagers and seeing the similarities between us and them, even though we have grown up completely differently. Even through all the planning my team did, the Lord decided we could offer these teenagers more if we had no clue what was going on. He wanted us just as we are with nothing planned but willing to serve. He used this situation to teach me that no matter the ministry, all He needs is my willingness and open heart, and He will use me.
Isaiah 55:8-9
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Only a week and a half left in Romania! Then on to Ukraine!
