I wonder…

For what are you thanking God?

Is it the green trees and vibrant flowers around you?

Is it the noise of the ocean waves crashing down on golden sand?

Do your eyes become infatuated with pink and purple sunsets?

Do you get high off the adventures on which God takes you?

Is it how the beat of your favorite song sets your body free?

Does the smell of fresh rain make you want to belt out a joyful sound?

Does the feeling of a long run send a euphoric feeling through your body?

Does using your gifts and talents to bless those around you, fill you up with complete jollity?

Does the crunch of biting into your favorite foods send your taste buds going wild?

Does the absolute silence you hear while at the top of a mountain bring you peace and clarity?

I wonder…

Why is it that we overlook all these blessings to focus more on the tiresome and mundane? Could a change in perspective bring us back to a place of appreciation and exhilaration?

I wonder…

If we would be willing to challenge ourselves to actually enjoy this crazy life Jesus set out for us. That when we count our blessings we don’t also count our unanswered prayers. Maybe we can become simply content in the here and now.

I wonder…

Is it that we don’t quite understand that what makes our Papa upstairs most pleased is seeing us smile so hard our cheeks go numb? You know those moments when you’re laughing so hard your belly hurts, or that time your eyes filled with tears of joy, when you met your child for the first time? The moments where we enjoy His simple, organic, and precious gifts. Are these moments not enough for us to sing songs of thanks to Him for the rest of our days?

I wonder…

If we could take a stand for choosing joy? If we could invite God to romance us a little bit? If we could stop searching for the more, and just settle in His good.

But mostly I wonder…

do you wonder?
