For ministry, today, our Host has challenged us to go on a Treasure Hunt. Yep, you read that right. I was just as confused. Then, Pastor Brian explained to us, that we would be hunting for people as our treasure.
He told us to spend some quite time with the Lord, and ask him for a vision or words to know who would be our ‘treasure’ today. The goal was to find this person and bless them in some way. Either through prayer, gifts, and anything else you felt led to do.
I was in a team of four: Sarah, Janibel, Sylvia, and I. I was a little apprehensive going into this, because I had never done anything like this before, and listening to the Lord, isn’t always the easiest thing for me to do.
We started praying and Janibel was the first person to get a vision, and it was a plaid shirt. I was next, with a smiley face. I thought “what a silly thing to see”, and almost didn’t share it with the girls, but just went for it anyway. Then Sylvia heard “Go right”. And Sarah kept seeing pink flowers, and hearing “red”.
So, the adventure began! We started wondering the unknown streets of Nepal, searching for these random visons, that didn’t seem to make any sense together. As we walked, I think we all started doubting if we had heard the Lord correctly.
We saw women on the side of the streets, and decided we would just pray for them instead of searching for our strange visions. Every time, we got turned down by these women as we asked them if we could pray for them.
Defeat. That’s all we could feel at this point. We saw a little café, and I decided we should go walk inside. As we did, we ran into some of our other teammates, who said they were looking for white people, because that was their vision. So, they asked us if they could pray for us, and of course we said yes, as we desperately needed some inspiration.
Then we continued walking down, and BAM! We see a smiley face painted on the outside of little restaurant. So, I go to walk in, and because it was so hot and busy, I quickly left. “I’m not sure if this is it” I thought. As I’m walking out I notice that the dishes have pink flowers painted on them. I yell it out to my team, and they all get excited. Could this really be where the Lord has led us? Then we notice a man pacing back and forth in front wearing a plaid shirt, and red shoes. This has to be it, we all agreed.
So, eagerly, we all walk to the back where there’s seating and see a table of men, wearing plaid shirts under their jackets. We decided to go sit at the table next to them. We began to get into some small talk, and end up asking them if we could pray for them, and what for? One man replied, “Yes, pray for anything!”, and the other,” Can you pray for peace?”. So, we pray for peace among many other things.
We continue to talk to these men, as they ask us many questions about where are from, and why we were here in Nepal. We notice it’s about time to leave, so we say goodbye, and we tell them we will continue to pray for them. Their faces lit up. “YES! Maybe something good will happen!”, one replied.
We left that restaurant, so ecstatic, and couldn’t wait to tell our other teammate’s, the treasure we had found. We had felt completely ridiculous going into this day, and then defeated when it was taking longer than expected. But, the feeling after, seeing how God weaved all our visions into one place, was the absolute coolest. God has challenged us all to trust him, and trust that he will always guide our feet in the right direction. I am excited to continue finding treasures, on these Nepalese roads.
Here’s a picture of the girls on my team, and the men we got to bless!
