This was one of the best days I have had in my life. Today was filled with laughter, peace, dancing, serving, love, and so much joy I can’t even begin to explain it. I made a friend, his name is Lungelo a.k.a. Little man and he is 13 years old. He is sarcastic, witty, and is always the one making jokes. If you are a teacher I’m sure you’ve had a student like this in your class. He is the jokester but yet so brilliant! Something about him drew me in. He would smile and laugh at me speaking in his language I could only imagine what he was saying but yet, it didn’t matter because I seemed to be having the same smile on my face. He was infectious, the whole place would lighten up with his dance moves and comments. He made sure everyone was laughing. He would take my hat and sunglasses and strut all around the care point like the cool little boy he was. He even called me his wife at one point, and said he was 18, I couldn’t help but laugh because it was the cutest thing that I have ever experienced.

Talking to him I got to know more about his personality and who he was. When he grows up he wants to be a pastor.. Why? Because he loves the word of God so much that he wants to tell others about it. His favorite verse is Romans 6:6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. He is a precious gem to me and has been such a light in my time here.

Being in Swaziland has made me realize that these kids just want to be loved, they are no different than kids in the states or even kids in other countries. Our main focus should be to love on these kids with all the energy and pursuit we have. These kids have dreams, goals, and ambitions! to be able to encourage them to being whatever they want to be has brought so much joy. These kids go to this care point for food, for some it’s the only meal they have all day… But they come in with so much happiness and so much fun energy knowing that life is good and it’s going to get better!!

To find a little boy who is 13 years old proclaiming that he loves The word of God so much that he wants to dedicate his life to being a pastor is incredible. 95% of Christians don’t even share their faith, so the fact that he feels this strongly about wanting to share the love of Jesus is inspiring! If we only look at the outside, at circumstances, at the sarcasm and witty comments thinking that they are just going to be trouble, we miss what’s truly on the inside. Their passions, drive, interests, their struggles, and most importantly their heart.

I truly believe with all my heart that he will grow up, he will succeed, and he will further the kingdom. He will change the lives of many and it’s amazing to say that I got to be the first person he changed.
