Around two weeks ago, a scripture was handed to me. I looked it up, and honestly, it didn’t really do much for me. However, I prayed that if there was something within it that I needed to hear, that the Lord would tell me loudly.

The verse was this: “And while they were conversing and discussing together, Jesus Himself caught up with them and was already accompanying them.” Luke 24:15

I looked before the verse and after the verse. The verse is within the passage where two disciples are headed to Emmaus, talking it up about all the events that had just taken place with Jesus.

Still nothing. I wasn´t getting a darn thing from it. I thought, ¨Maybe I’ve been talking too much about Jesus and I’ve forgotten He’s with me?¨ But that didn’t seem right…because I didn’t feel like I’d forgotten that fact one bit.

Then two days ago, I was sitting in the living room and someone was listening to a podcast. I was typing out emails, halfway listening to the sermon, when suddenly I heard, “That’s the Road to Emmaus…”

Wait! What?!

I tuned in. The sermon was titled, “The Second Mile”.

“And if anyone forces you to go one mile; go with him two miles.” Matthew 5:41

But the pastor related it to the passage in Luke 24 that my scripture was out of, asking: “What is the second mile?”

These men were going to Emmaus because that’s where their circumstances were taking them. (The first mile). When they reached Emmaus, Jesus acted as if He was going to go further (v. 28), but they insisted He stay with them.

The pastor went on to say, “Circumstances will only take you where you live (not physically, but mentally/spiritually as well). Jesus wants to go FURTHER. He wants to go BEYOND where you were going in your faith.”

So we’re given a choice if we want to go that second mile. Jesus is already with us for the first. Beyond the first mile is the unexpected.

We have to choose to leave what we’re familiar with and go the second mile. We can choose to go beyond where life said it would take us.

It forced me to ask the following question to the Lord:

Have I settled and urged You to stay with me in Emmaus when You’re wanting to take me further?

Here’s a little glimpse into the answer He gave me…but I encourage you to ask Him the same.
And then sit long enough to hear the answer He’s giving you.

“I will take you further. You will walk on without ¨destination.¨ Remove the ¨destination¨ from your mind and heart. I’m already with you, and I’ll continue to be with you, so keep walking. Love. Don’t be satisfied in your present capacity to love…I can love more. I can do more…but I need all of you. The parts you protect, the parts you claim as yours…I need THOSE. I will make greater use of them.”

Go that second mile…it´s worth it heart
