There’s a scene in Home Alone where Kevin is underneath the covers of his parents’ bed…afraid…and desiring that his parents just come home.

The past few weeks, I feel like I’ve been there…almost pouting…just under the covers, wanting my Father to just come and pull me out and make everything  better…to just give me a new mind with new thoughts with new habits…to just defend me against any attack that might come my way…

But He says “and TAKE the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God…” (Ephesians 6:17)

The Word…the Word…I love the Word…but do I USE the Word…or have I just placed this shiny sword in a glass case that I just look at and admire? I admire and acknowledge how sharp it is, how powerful it is, how amazing it is…but what good is it in that glass case?

I’m supposed to be fighting

Two Sundays ago, my pastor spoke on Judges…about the land that the Israelites were given, their promised territory, and how they let the enemy come back in and take over.

We have to defend what’s ours. God has driven out the enemy and brought us to our inheritance…He’s ALREADY done that…and we’re then given a call to action…

In Judges, the Angel of the Lord comes to Gideon in the midst of oppression and hiding, and says “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of fearless courage…” (Judges 6:12 amp)

The Lord doesn’t look at our surroundings, He doesn’t look at our facial expression, He doesn’t gauge our feelings, and He doesn’t define us by what we’ve already done…

He reminds us that His Spirit is within us. Despite what you’re surrounded by, despite how you feel, despite what you may have even done in the moment prior to this…He reminds you WHOSE you are, and then tells you WHO you are because of it…you mighty man (or woman) of fearless courage.

And one with fearless courage will fight the battle, not shrink from it.

One with fearless courage gets out from under the covers…

We stand in God's armor. We slam the door to the enemy’s accusations against us, and with sword in hand, we echo Kevin McCallister’s declaration prior to battle…

“This is my house. I have to defend it.”
