“You should ask the Lord about coming back to teach in Thailand…”
“Why do you say that?” I asked.
“Well…it’s just an idea…just ask Him…if He says no, you have your answer…”
This was the conversation I had with a woman named Linda. This month, my team was paired with Team Honda. Chelsea Ellis is on that team, and she had a friend whose parents resided in Chiang Mai (which is the city we were working near).
She contacted them, and they invited her to dinner. I got to accompany her because we can’t ever go by ourselves.
A rule that I loathe turned out to result in one of my favorite nights of the Race.
After showing us around a little, Linda took us back to her home. Her HOME. Like a normal, lived-in, Racer-free home.
Her son, Ethan, was playing a video game with his friend, Moses. They were 13 and 14 years old, and maybe the most precious junior high boys I’ve encountered.

Once her husband, Eng, was finished making dinner, we all sat down…to FRIED CHICKEN…and potatoes…and roasted squash…it’s like the Lord had whispered in his ear that we needed fried chicken.
So, sitting around the table, we listened to the boys talk about school and their teachers and we talked about our trip a little, and THEN, before Eng left to go watch a soccer game…they prayed for us. Each of them prayed for each of us. I can’t put to words why that meant so much…but it was awesome.
Then Linda asked if I could sing….ha…but she walked over to the piano, and we decided worship was a must. So, Linda, Chelsea, and I worshipped together.
After that, some Dutch Blitz was played, and then it was time to go home.
It was on the way home that the conversation from the beginning of this blog took place. I loved that conversation because Linda just made it so simple.
“Just ask Him…if He says no…you have your answer…”
Simple. I love it when a walk with the Lord is presented so simply. Not easy…but simple. I love it.
And that night…was simple. You can see by what I wrote how simple it was. Yet it refreshed my soul.
Sometimes I think we try to over think our walks with the Lord…
And it’s when it’s made simple again that we experience the refreshment it promises.
There are few times I can count when complete strangers have taken me in and taken care of me with such love. That’s the Body. That’s the Body of Christ that we read about. Where you don’t have to know someone to love them.
Where you don’t have to get passed this certain point with someone in order to receive them with open arms.
But you just love them…because you’ve been asked to love them.
Simple.
