After much deliberation and prayer, our new team of five girls has landed on a new name.
So, here we are…

Maidens of Valor

We are in one of the highest places in the world. I can’t remember it’s exact altitude, arounbd 13,500 feet.  It’s even higher than Quito, Ecuador, where we struggled gasping for breath in Month One.

If you’ve never been to high altitudes, it can be rough. And there is one thing that is crucial to survival: Water.

We sometimes forget how much oxygen is in water. It’s almost as if drinking water is just as necessary as taking a breath.

Without it, you’ll suffer from altitude sickness…which can manifest itself in headaches, nausea, diarrhea…it’s difficult to sleep. For all you side or stomach sleepers out there, it just isn’t possible…you’ll feel like you’re suffocating.

You need water.

But we always need water.

I woke up this morning desperate for water. I sit here right now and require a drink every fifteen minutes. If I don’t get it, my head begins to ache, my throat feels like it’s closing, and my whole system feels as if it’s shutting down.

When the Lord calls us higher…when He calls us out of our present struggle, I think we get this picture of where that means we’ll be. In the past, I’ve thought that ‘place’ would even look like me not needing Him so much. Because at that place I could just figure it out…I would know more, so my desperation wouldn’t be so drastic.

But He takes us higher and says, DRINK.

He takes us higher, and we need Him more for our breath than we ever did before.

Maybe He takes us there so that we’ll see how necessary and vital He is to our survival…

We make it past the struggle…we make it out of the pit…we climb this mountain…
And even though our pride would love to say that we’re good to go, we find ourselves gasping for air.

Because the world no longer provides the oxygen we need.

We need water. We need His water.

And the higher He calls us, the more of Him we need.

“And let everyone come who is thirsty (who is painfully conscious of his need of those things by which the soul is refreshed, supported, and strengthened); and whoever desires to do it, let him come, take, and drink of the water of Life without cost.” Revelation 22:17
