Sometimes you have to turn around

This month adventeur was rainforest. First catching a train then a van that brought us to a town where we could take a boat into Taman Negra rainforest.  Taman Negra is a national park and is known to be one of the oldest rain forests.  One major thing to do is hiking and on this hike you get to see a lot, think a lot and be surrounded by your teammates.

In life and hikes I trust the person long ago who has carved out my life and the path for the hike.  On this hike it was particularly well made and obvious where to go. We climbed with a rope up the rocks and trees and finally saw the sign, our destination!!  Mission accomplished,   one of my favorite things to do after arriving to the end point is to find a different way then the way we came.  So the three of us set out on a narrower smaller trail.  Going further into the forest, but at the same time the direction home.  Soon Julia and Eric said lets turn around,  but I insisted keep on going there is still a trail.  We trudged on after a little while, the woods opened up.  This is where I stopped and thought now what.  I had two options to try my luck or turn around knowing I made the wrong decision.   I choose the latter, getting lost can be fun.  But running into a tiger could have major consequences!  So we turned around and made the 2 hour trip back to base.

This made me think of my character and also why I dislike turning around.  I can handle a slight angle or even a 90degree turn.  However when you turn 180 there is a humbling feeling knowing you are going back.  I know there are times I ought to turn from what I am doing or turn from where I thought was the right path.  It is a challenge, and knowing that you are on the right path is a relief.

Lesson learned right?  Wrong the idea was to find a watering hole where we could cool off.  This time I went alone and the sun was setting becoming dark with all the trees casting shadows.  There was a platform path and this was the path I took for the walk. The walk was uneventful and then tiresome then scary.  The sounds I heard, definitely animal, the thing I saw also an animal.  However, too fast to recognize.  Soon 45 minutes had passed and my flashlight on the phone was turned on, ah the power and saftey of light. Then the platform ended and the path continued and dark was darker and the trees seemed bigger.

With darkness in the air, and weakness in my body.  I turned around again facing the same trip I came from and the scary rain forest.  In the end I walked fast and scared five times.  The first birds sweeping by me consuming the bugs around my head.  The bunny rabbit that dashed in front of me also quit the scare.  The hand rail that looked  certainly like a big animal. The areas where trees fell on the platform.   Lastly the thing that grew, darkness.   In the end I survived and the adrenalin gave me a good shot of joy.

Don’t be afraid to turn around.

Don’t be afraid to be alone.

When your in the forest recall the last time you heard from god!   Then go to that point, peace out!
