The four of us Alleigh, Andrea and Morgan were waiting for the van to take us to the city of Guatemala! Soon a man drives up and says do you need a ride? where are you going to? So we jumped in and were on another adventure with our new friend jimmy lopaz.
One of my goals is to meet a person i can learn from and to hear their stories and their passions. Jimmy lived in Toronto, but came to his home country of Guatemala every year! He loved the weather and the ability to get away from work and cold weather. Jimmy talked about his skills about playing the guitar and singing! He even played one of his cds for us. Jimmy talked about a lot of things. But the one i want to share with you, is about loving yourself. He talked about how jesus said love your neighbor as you love yourself.
Love-control, I have been learning a lot about self control and been asking people how they practice self-control. Jimmy talked briefly about being a counselor and about being an addict and then changing his life and now he helps others get out of being addicted to something. I asked him his one advice on how he helps people. He thought and finaly said. “Dont let things control you, you control the things!”
The things, all things are good in doses. But what about that self control….love control. Food, brings energy we need this to survive, but most of us over eat or eat our feelings. Eventually it shows with being over weight in the doctor room or how much energy we have.
What about our brain, we use it daily. At the same time we can run thoughts through our mind over and over getting ourself stressed and running our brain with lies and fears that will never happen.
What about our work, we provide for our needs and help people through our work. But what if it takes all of our hours in a day. What if it effects our family and friends when we cant see them enough in a week.
What about our faith. We can get all pumped up on making a difference about telling others about jesus or by worshipping for hours. But then we could forget about going or telling our neighbor about Jesus love.
What about our friends. We were made for community. To sharpen others and ourselves to not be selfish but selfless. Then we twist good things to bad desires. Living for peoples approval, for their affirmation.
So there is a lot to think about. To measure and to pour into. In the end we need to recognize the creator! We need to trust rely on Him and His Love. Pray for where you want more balance in your life, and i will be praying for you as well!
Love Justin
