The past 9 months have gone by in a blur of preparation and radical change. It all started as just a wild thought placed in my head, this turned into an opportunity, which turned into a distant destination, and now it is becoming a reality. I have meet the financial deadline for launch and God willing, I will be flying out of Chicago on September 6 with a Malaysian destination as the starting point of these next 11 months.
After countless trips to REI, expensive vaccines, reading the endless supply of packing blogs from other racers, and not being able to see the floor of my bedroom because all of my gear is scattered everywhere, the time has come for me to put all of this together. Yes I have to pack but more importantly is organizing and processing what is about to take place, in my head. I am about to live out of a backpack for a year, take bucket showers and hand-wash my clothes, all for the opportunity to spread the good news of Jesus Christ to anyone that needs to hear it.
Sitting here in my air conditioned kitchen contemplating the choices from a packed refrigerator, The true nature of how blessed I am is sinking in. Many of the places I will be going to probably don't know what air conditioning is. Not only do I have food, I have choices of what I want and when I want it. The fact that I have ever complained about anything makes me feel guilty. I, like most everyone else here in the states I am sure, knew that we lived in a bubble here in the states, but the thought never carried much weight in my mind. Reading the blogs of other racers really opened my eyes to this. It made me realize how blessed I am but also how unappreciative I have been. I know that I am going to grow and learn so much this next year but I am sure that It will be much more than I can imagine. Keep checking back to see what is going on, and where I am.
