Situated at 5,600 ft, higher than Denver, surrounded by
volcanoes and mountains, Antigua has been one of the most picturesque cities
I’ve lived in over the past year. Weather couldn’t be better as its
often the city referred to as having “eternal spring.”
Having just concluded 11 months of ministry in 12 countries, I couldn’t have
asked for a better final month. We started off a little slow with Semana
Santa celebrations shutting down this town the first week, but then we got
busy.
3 main activities fill my final weeks on the Race:
– Working with New Generation, an organization that teaches values and life
principles to middle school and high school students while weaving in the
gospel through out. We saw over 100 kids in over a half dozen schools
come to faith. Pretty cool stuff!
– Volunteering at the local special needs hospital. Very reminiscent of
JEMS special camp I used to do over the summer.
– Volunteer at Casa Jackson, a specialty clinic/home for severely malnourished
kids ages 0-12. Precious kids! Basically just showered love on these
little guys… as well as bathed em and changed diapers. :/ good times.
My little buddy, Anderson…Chubbiest cheeks in town. He may not look malnourished, in fact, he looks a little fat, but he has a type of condition where his belly swells and he retains a lot of water. Super mellow guy, until you put him home and then he screams bloody murder. Loves attention and affection.
Play time with big sis. She’s actually just the healthiest 5 yr old in the home and acts like a big sister to all.

Waking up from nap time… Masks and smocks are worn at all times as the kids’ immune systems are weak

At the Special Needs hospital…
Celebrating some random holiday. An excuse to hit a pinata though~

Don’t tell the hospital, but we had some pretty sweet wheel chair races up and down the corridors.

Pre-dinner antics. Most the guys are non-verbal, so there’s a lot of hitting, slapping and grunting. Ya know, Menly men stuff…

Feeding time… Always fun to see how much food went in their mouths vs on our clothes.

V-ball at Plaza Mayor with the street kids during Semana Santa

My team and the all girls team I spent the final month with…
11 months of ministry in the books…
