I love making video recaps of my adventures. Whether it’s a weekend camping trip or a family cruise or a month or two on the World Race Expedition Route, I love capturing the memory and feeling of an experience in some way.

Something I’ve been learning on the Race so far about my creative process is that I’m pretty good at compilations, but lacking in direction. I need to practice having some sort of theme within my videos.

Pairing that realization with a desire to create something a little new and different this time around, I began considering what that could look like in a World Race video. What was a commonality I could capture and share that really tells viewers back home what the Race is like?

Something that came to mind is how almost every day is full of either very hectic times or very boring ones (sometimes both), yet there is always a subtle beauty to be found in any moment if you choose to pause… slow down… breathe… take things in…

After that I asked myself, “What’s something I find beautiful in video?”

“Black and white and slow motion.”

I chose to try and utilize black and white to see if I could still capture the true raw beauty of two very colorful countries without those colors to define them.

I chose slow motion because it seems to be the only way to really convey what it feels like to be in the midst of a ridiculously hectic or seemingly unremarkable moment, then suddenly recognize something extremely breath-taking and beautiful, such as a genuinely joyful smile or an incredible view of the mountains or a hand brushing up against an ancient building, etc etc etc. I could go on.

I want to find and capture beauty in every moment, no matter how special it may sound or feel at the time. That’s what the World Race is like for me in my creative mind.

Oh and as for Underoath, they rock and those bungee jumping videos deserved something fitting.

So check out the new video and let me know what you think! I would love some feedback for future videos!
