Yesterday I witnessed something that shook me to my very core and shocked me so much. On this race I have seen poverty, I’ve seen people struggling, but nothing has been as horrific as what I saw. Our host sent us out on a scavenger hunt to get a better understandings of where stuff is in the city. So we got to ride around and see the sights and meet some very interesting people. While out on the scavenger hunt Sam, Jake, and I went to find the KFC and as we approached it we heard what sounded like shouting. We turned around and saw in the parking lot a man beating a woman. He hit her multiple times and kicked her in the head and knocked her out. Honestly my first thought was to beat the crap out of the guy. I know that’s not the nicest thing but laying hands on a woman is something that doesn’t sit well with me at all. Sam and I started to walk over because no one was going over to help her up. A man stopped us and said that was the man’s wife. She then staggered up and climbed into the back of the truck and he drove off.

Standing there in shock and anger, it made me think of the women on my squad. I laid in bed that night just replaying in my mind how different scenarios could’ve gone had I done something. I was wrestling with those thoughts last night and the women of my squad came up. I want all the women of my squad to know that I love and respect everyone of y’all. You girls deserve to be honored and you are such powerful women. You guys are my family. I would fight for any one of you. I will fight to keep you safe, to keep you motivated, to keep you pressing into what God has for you and to be there as a brother in Christ. Seeing that incident yesterday made me see how little respect there is for women in all parts of the world. As a man on this squad I want, I want to be a man who empowers the women of this generation and this squad. I love y’all and am so glad to share in this adventure and further Gods Kingdom with y’all.
