We all have times in our lives where we think that what we’re doing isn’t really that special or significant. My personal one is when I decided to take a job at a school to be a custodian and clean floors for a local middle school. I remember the day I got the job and started working, I was excited I was getting a raise and full time benefits but I really wasn’t sure this is where I was suppose to be. Taking that job lead me down a path that would lead me to one of the greatest decisions ever in my life. After a few months I met a girl I worked with and we would talk occasionally, and one particular day I remember we started talking about mission trips. She told me she went on the World Race and immediately I was hooked!

in the Bible there is the story about David who has just been anointed by Samuel and is in line to be the next king of Israel. In first Samuel 16 we see that David is just out attending sheep. He isn’t doing  anything significant but watching sheep. Samuel comes to David’s house and The Lord chooses David the youngest and last resort in the family to be the next king. Now it’s been a few years later after that and Saul is the current king. All that time you would think David has been anointed, he deserves to be a king and to be treated like he is one. He goes back to the sheep. Really? David was just told you’re the next king, now go back and tend sheep. Saul starts getting tormented by evil spirits and he calls for a harpist to come play for him to soothe his mind. Word around is David is the best harpist in the area. He is then invited to play for the king he is eventually gonna replace! He plays and soothes Saul’s mind every time he plays for him.

You see sometimes in life we get a calling in our lives at the times we feel we aren’t doing much. David was tending sheep in the fields, nothing that exciting. For me it was cleaning floors and I thought that I wasn’t doing much with my life at all. David is anointed and said to be the next King in line but he goes back to the field. Then he is called up years later to play a harp for the king who he will take over for. It’s crazy how God will keep you on something you think is so meaningless, but He’s using it for a greater purpose than you can imagine. Had I not had my job, I’d have never met my coworker and heard of her trip. I wouldn’t have heard anything about the World Race and would never be at this amazing point in my life to go out on the greatest adventure of my life. In the moment I thought it was a burden because it wasn’t what I wanted to do was work at a school. Looking back it was God shaping me and making me practice my harp so that I can move towards my ultimate goal of making a difference in His name.
