My name is Kaitlyn! First of all, I am really proud of all of you. I proud of you for listening to God and making the decision to join the team. I proud of you for giving up comforts and going to the nations. And I'm proud of you for prevailing through the trials that you are encountering while support raising. But I'm here to tell you that you can do it!!! (In Christ of course 🙂
My support account just jumped 2,660 dollars in one week. Was it one week of conversations with potential supporters and prayer? No. lol. But none the less, God brought in a significant amount of money in a short amount of time… I want you to know that He is going to do that for you too (If He hasn't already)!
So what has been working for me? Well, to tell you the truth, I feel like I haven't done that much except having the trip on my lips at all time. Here's the thing: People love you. They really love you and want good things for you. What you are passionate about, so are they. And maybe they don't care anything about God or missions, but that doesn't always matter. They will support you because they love you. When I went to Turkey 2 years ago, I had an atheist support me… How cool is that? Someone who doesn't even believe in God was helping spread His word. Tell me God can't do anything! 🙂
Also, don't be surprised when the ones you think will support you don't. I have an aunt and uncle that I am extremely close to that have never supported me, and I don't expect them to now. My main supporters for this trip are very unlikely people, and some are even strangers. That is why I advise you to TELL EVERYBODY and rule no one out! God has already decided the people who are going to give to you. Don't limit Him by only sharing your trip with those who are Christians and family. God is bigger than our sphere of people.
Some people will be hesitant and want to have multiple meetings about your trip before contributing. And this is ok. They are just wanting to make sure they are doing the right thing and pleasing God with their gifts. Be patient and know that God is going to reveal to that person what they should do. I had a guy randomly approach me on Facebook and ask to meet me about my trip. So, I met him in a public place and I shared my story (how I got here) and what I'll be doing. We probably met 5 times before he wrote me a check… But that check was for 2,350 dollars… It was worth the wait. On the flip side, I shared my story with a lady in Alabama and an hour later she handed me a check for 4,000 dollars. You never know with God. And that is the fun part.
Be passionate about the World Race when you are sharing your story and future plans. When people see the passion that you have for God, the nations, and simply an adventure, they will want to jump on board because they can't go and want to live vicariously through you. Passion for the Lord is contagious… So spread it.
I currently have 10,000 dollars for my trip and another 3,000 in pledges… I'm here to tell you that you can do it! Just start spreading the word to anyone and everyone.
