Well, yes, it could be if you buy a 55 degree sleeping bag for a 27 degree night in Bolivia next year. Or when your entire wardrobe/you smell like extreme mold because you got the wrong kind of jacket for the rainy season in Cambodia.
I figured it may be helpful (now that we're all in pre TC (training camp) shopping mode) to take a look at the monthly weather forecast for our (*tentative*) route next year.
Hopefully this will be beneficial in preparation for everyone as we're shopping and bargain-bettying our way through REIs and Alpine Shops across America these next few months. 🙂

General Info about Climate/Country
ECUADOR – Costal area: rainy season December-May; Mountains: much cooler with altitude, less rainfall; Amazon region: rainy and very humid from November-February. *Country is generally warm and humid.
PERU – Rainy season from December-April, very hot and humid in both jungle and mountains. Winter from June-September with warm days but cold nights, specifically in the mountains.
BOLIVIA – November-March are hot and rainy, April-October is the dry, winter season; mountains get very cold at night but are warm during the day.
SOUTH AFRICA – October-February is the hot, dry summer season, February-April is considered "fall" with warm days and cool nights and little rain. May-July is the winter season, warm days with cold nights. South Africa has very little rain throughout the year, but occasionally during its winter. Mountains get snow.
SWAZILAND – October-May is the hot and humid rainy season, with tropical, wet storms in the western mountains. The winter, dry season is from June-September.
MOZAMBIQUE – October-March is a very hot, humid and tropical rainy/summer season. The dry and slightly cooler winter is April-September. There is little variation in temperature between seasons.. aka: it's always hot.
THAILAND – June-October are VERY rainy and humid months, with monsoons brining a lot of precipitation. November-February are slightly cooler and drier, and April and May are the hottest and most humid months.
CAMBODIA – June-October are VERY rainy and humid. The temperature stays high year round, but the humidity makes the summer very hot, with monsoons. November-February are cool & dry, March-May are hot & dry, April-September are hot and rainy.
VIETNAM – The south is hot & humid year round, with the most rain coming in May-November. In the north, November-April is slightly cooler and dry, and May-October is hot and rainy.
Ok, so obviously this is all assuming we are launching in Peru and following the same order of countries listed in our route, so if it changes come this spring, hopefully this gives a general idea of what kind of weather we should prepare for in any month next year.
