Fundraising… it can be very daunting, but it can also be very rewarding! Not only rewarding in terms of finances, but also in faith.
Not to long after I joined the July 2011 squad, God pressed into my heart a BIG idea for our squad to raise support. I saw the list of ideas that AIM sent us and one of them was to host a 5K benefit race. I thought this sounded perfect for me since I have participated in several 5K's. But over time, God stirred my heart His big idea… What if several July racers hosted a 5K on the same day, same time, for the same cause? It could be HUGE! So I began toying with this idea in my head and banging out the logistics of what this would look like. God has been so good in surrounding me with wonderfully supportive people who have been a great sound board for these ideas and now it is time to put those ideas into action.
Here is what I have so far:
Name: Race for the World
Date: April 30, 2011
Time: 10:30am EST
Cost: $35 donation to enter
Centralized web site: http://flavors.me/racefortheworld (This could change, I literally JUST set this up and I'm not sure if it is the best… if any of you web savvy racers have any ideas I'm totally open.)
T-shirts: I have a graphic designer who has agreed to sponsor the race by donating her services to design the t-shirt and a printing company who has agreed to make the shirts at cost. (somewhere b/t $2-4/shirt)
***I have not yet figured out exactly how to get the money for the t-shirts. Here is the dilemma: The entry fee will be a donation to your support account and obviously we cannot be reimbursed for t-shirts. There are a few different ways to go about this:
1. I am going to provide a t-shirt for the 1st 200 people who sign up to race for me out of pocket. (You could determine your #.) And then for anyone else who wants a shirt will have to order them separately and purchase them with cash at the race site.
2. You can try to find someone/a company who is willing to purchase the t-shirts for the race.
3. You can change it to a $30 donation (or you can leave it at $35) to race and charge $5 at the race site for t-shirts.
We could opt out of doing t-shirts all together but in my experience t-shirts tend to bring a much larger crowd. 🙂
Each racer who joins me will have to set up the 5K in their city. Doing this means:
1. Finding a venue to host the race (parks, schools, churches, etc.) (This will need to be done 1st. Deadline: January 1st.)
2. Get 0-8 sponsors for the race (more to come on this)
3. Find timing equipment (idea: talk to schools w/ cross country teams). You can probably just use a stopwatch depending on the size of your race.
4. Prizes for winners
(These 3 things would not need to be done immediately but there will be a timeline).
If you would like to participate I need a few things:
1. Name 🙂
2. City you will hold the race in
3. Post a blog on your personal blog page titled: Race for the World
It will need to look something like this:
Several of us July 2011 racers are hosting 5Ks in our respective cities to raise support. Please find details of the race at http://flavors.me/racefortheworld. The first 200 people to sign up to support me through this race will get a FREE t-shirt with their donation.
To sign up:
Make a tax deductible donation of $35 under the 'Support Me' page (Please do not make this anonymous.)
E-mail me under the 'Contact Me' page with the following information:
1) Name
2) Age
3) T-shirt size
4) Confirmation number for your donation.
Once I have received this information I will then respond to you with your registration information.
Thank you all for your support!
God Bless,
Kim
That all for now. Once you let me know that you would like to participate I will post your information on the centralized website and there will be more information to follow.
Please prayerfully consider if you would like to join in this fundraiser. I need to know by December 17th so that we can really get this off the ground. I don't know what God is doing with this but I'm really excited to see how He uses this to provide!
I hope this answers most of your questions but I'm sure there is something I have looked over. If you have any other questions please message me on Facebook or e-mail me at [email protected]
