We have finished week one of ministry at Ciudad Refugio in Medellin Colombia. This month is an “all squad” month meaning that all 43 of us are staying at this Ministry and serving together. This is the largest group the Ministry has ever had and they are testing out new programs with us since we have the numbers.
We have gotten to get involved with multiple of their existing Ministries as well as help plan a Kids Program (VBS) which they have never had at this location. To get the children here we will take flyers and walk the local area with a translator. We will go door to door telling people about the program and praying for them. I was surprised that this actually worked considering in America you would usually have the door shut before you started to speak. Here in Medellin people are very welcoming and want to hear what you have to say, even when you are intruding into their personal home time.
We have done multiple prayer walks each day, prayer walks are extremely exciting because it can look different every time, depending on how the Holy Spirit is leading you. We will walk the area around the foundation and prayer over the city, and sometimes we will approach locals asking to pray for them. It is cool because you go out with a mission of praying over the local neighborhood it is all Holy Spirit driven.
Some of us have been involved with the men and women’s Ministry here on sight. The people who are in this Ministry are those who are currently completing their residential restoration program. This program offers men and women the opportunity to experience freedom from life – controlling problems. The philosophy of this program is to identify and treat root issues behind addiction and other disorders. Through this holistic process, individuals are encouraged to relearn their God-given identity and to restore damaged relationships with God, self and others.
Agua Panela outreach is another Ministry we have had the chance to see. Two nights a week a small group of us will leave the Ministry sight to go evangelize and love on those in need. This week we went to two different locations, the first a spot known for being a homeless hangout with high usage of drugs as well as a prostitution sight. The second night we went to a park in downtown Medellin which is also known as a place the homeless go as well as individuals who practice witch craft. Both nights people accepted Christ as their Savior and both nights people actually came back with us to get enrolled in the residential restoration program, it was AMAZING.
This is only some of what we have gotten to do the first week! This Ministry is amazing and the Holy Spirit is flooding over this place like fire. I cannot wait to see how the rest of the month goes and to share the experience with you.
Below I have included a video that was created by the Ministry. It will allow you to see a little bit of what we are doing every day.
We are off for the next two days to rest and see the city, I will periodically have access to Wi-Fi, if you have emailed, texted, etc. I will talk to you soon! Miss you all!
