This past week we were off to start our first day of soccer ministry and as we were driving to the field….I made the comment….”I pray God rocks our world and no kids show up and we have to do street ministry.” I prayed this prayer because I didn’t want the kids to come to us…I felt led to go out to the kids and usher them onto the field. Little did I know as we pull up in the lot…there were no kids around. We are sitting in the car waiting to find out what we are suppose to do now. I immediately am drawn to these 3 men to our left who are laying bricks. Next thing I hear, “Go lay bricks.” I sat there thinking ok God as my body remained in the car…thinking what will my teammates think of this? I know I have to do this and can’t wait any longer. I heard it again…”Go lay bricks”. I told Anthea and Brittani what I felt the Lord telling me to go do and they immediately followed as I got out of the car and walked over to the men.
They spoke little English but could understand what I was asking. We began passing bricks to them like an assembly line. Before we knew it the other car of girls were getting out and all 6 of us were helping these men. We have had several struggles this past week with spiritual warfare. I’m not going to go into details, but I know I can feel the prayers that are being prayed over my team. It’s amazing how God wrecks our agenda and makes it his own….here we are suppose to be doing soccer ministry and we are laying bricks with these men. As I looked around I remember looking at our faces and how our spirits were immediately lifted and smiles filled our faces again.
As we finished we looked at each other and then decided to hit the streets and go gather up kids! It was so exciting seeing these kids flock to us as we told them to come play soccer with us. I remember at one point turning around and literally feeling like Jesus seeing all of the kids following behind us. My heart was overfilled with joy and love.
I challenge each and every one of you to go out of your way for someone….listen to the voice telling you to do something, but you’re too afraid of what others might think. Don’t live in fear or let anything hold you back….step up and out and let God move through you!
As for other stuff going on…we volunteered at a wonderful place called “New Dawn” in Kewton helping to feed the children before they go to school. There was one morning as we walked in and two kids ran up to me wanting hugs….to me it was God’s way of showing me why I’m here and there is soooo much more left to be done. We worked with kids after school and played soccer…some of us found ourselves sitting on the ground just loving on the kids and ministering to them. We also did maintenance at Sybrand Park Christ Church a couple of days. We have all enjoyed the hospitality and the people from the church for everything they have done. They have made us feel at home and several have cooked us some amazing meals.
Our squad (minus 1 team) also got to hike Table Mountain. Global Rootz was the only team to hike up the mountain and back down as an entire team! Go girls!! 🙂 I would post pictures, but my computer isn’t working right now…I have to get a new battery for it this week.
