Our next day in Kathmandu was spent traveling to the slums. We began walking into the slums and I was blown away by how the Lord blessed us. There was a storm and the air was filled with so much dust (we wear masks when we go out because of how bad the pollution is) and it begins to rain. As we were walking through the slums, Jesus provided us with shelter.

There was a Nepali man who welcomed us inside his home…consisting of tree branches, some metal and a tarp (maybe 400 sq. ft). His family of eight lived in this shack and he was willing to welcome 13 new strangers in to keep us out of the rain. He even took a blanket from his family and placed on the ground so we could sit. I felt so humbled and overwhelmed with love…knowing they don’t have much but willing to sacrifice all they did have for us. They really have everything…each other.

We ended up praying for his wife while we were there. I also shared about Jesus (thanks to our translater) to him and listened to his story and struggles with alcohol. I was able to share my struggles and we both cried. He didn’t accept Jesus that day but his sons are believers and they can be a witness to him. Hopefully us being willing to sit with his family and listen and pray was enough to show him Jesus.

We played with a lot of the kids for a while and marveled in their beauty…dirty feet, snotty noses and all. None of that mattered to me… I just wanted to love on them and hold them.

As we were getting ready to leave I walk over to another shack where Audra and Kristen were praying for a lady. She leads us to this shop and has us sit down. (Doesn’t speak English) We sit there as she talks away and we just smile and laugh. Next thing we know they serve us chai tea and crackers. We might not understand what the ladies were saying, but we understood the love in their hearts and how they wanted to bless us.

Thank you Jesus for your blessings…small and large…that we may continue to bless others and reach out to them!
