One of my favorite parts of being at Daughters of Cambodia is the
opportunity that we have to pray every afternoon for the ministry and for the
people. They have this great
little prayer room that our team gathers in to pray for the ministry and the
individuals.
Over this past week or so God has been impressing upon me
that our past does not define us.
While we were praying the first day that we were at Daughters I just could NOT get out of my mind that
God makes ALL things new and that our past does not define us. However, we often use the past to label ourselves and others. Those labels are a hinderance to living fully and completely in who we are RIGHT NOW today.
Some verses that the Holy Spirit kept bringing to mind really reiterate that Truth…
II Corinthians 5:17-“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.”
Colossians 3:9-10-“…since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.”
Ephesians 4:22-24-“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
To be honest, if I met one of these men or women from Daughters on the street, I would have no clue where they are from or what their past has been like. I am loving the fact that when I’m at Daughters I don’t even think about about their past. They are just people, new creations with no labels at all.
