One of the choices that I make each day is to cultivate and
develop a grateful heart.  This
choice started on the first day when I woke up hot, sweaty, and exhausted in a
very cramped and dingy place very close to tears.  I needed to find SOMETHING to be thankful for in that
moment.  That decision has started
the daily ritual of writing down little things that I’m grateful throughout the
day.  It really helps ward off
discouragement or a negative attitude.
Here are some little things that I have been thankful for in my time
here.

Thank you Jesus for:

-a safe place to sleep and keep my things

-my sleeping pad to soften sleeping on the tiled floor

-a cold shower to refresh me after being hot and sweaty all
night long

-the encouragement and refreshment that comes from being in
your Word and through music

-laughter on the train ride

-yummy toast and jam for breakfast

-the woman you sent to help us find our way around at the
train stop

-cold, clean water to drink

-a shower twice a day (sometimes three times!)

-that we are further down the hall so we don’t hear the
honking as much

-able to wash clothes without having to search out a bucket
and line.  They are provided as we
take bucket showers here!  Didn’t
know that the bucket showers would have a dual purpose

-that we didn’t get any paint thrown on us on Holi day ( a
holiday here where they throw paint on each other)

-for games, songs and laughter and cuddling with children

-for the two kids sent my way to break my heart and break my
pride

-for running water and electricity every day!

-fans-keeps me cooler when I am sleeping

-early mornings with Jesus

-emails from home

-a banana at breakfast!

-sunshine-helps dry the clothes super quickly!

-falafel wrap-yummy!

-threading my eyebrows!  Feel like a new person!

-air conditioning at the mall.  It helps cool off in this intense heat!

-leaving two hours late meant that we didn’t have to walk in
the intense heat and that it was cooler at our destination.

-peanut butter and bananas

-laundry soap and clean clothes

-my eye covers and earplugs 🙂

–and the list goes on and on

Yup, I’m grateful for the little things J
