I’ve visited the place where I’m pretty sure heaven meets earth. It’s the place where the mountains meets the sky and you can’t distinguish where earth ends and the sky begins. Where is this place you might ask? Well, it’s in Nepal nestled in the Himalayan mountains. I wish I could post pictures right now but with dial-up internet it's pretty time-consuming.
We arrived in Kathmandu on the first after an exhausting travel day that started at 1am that morning in Hyderbad, India. Before leaving for Nepal, we had our month 5 debrief where our squad coaches and AIM staff came for a few days. My team also went out to dinner at the Hard Rock Café to celebrate Beka and Trey’s birthdays. That’s right friends, they have a Hard Rock Café in Hyderbad! I got a burger, which I hadn’t had in over a month, as they don’t eat beef (we did have one occasion where YWAM staff had us over for pot roast). The service at the restaurant was excellent and we were so blessed.
Anyways, back to Nepal. We arrived at the Kathmandu airport and I really felt like I was in a completely different era. Perhaps the 70’s? Our contact Daniel met us and we got to our hostel in Kathmandu and explored the city for a while. It felt like a mix between Latin America and Europe. Definitely the perfect place for World Racers. It’s probably my favorite city so far.
The next morning we left for Nijgadah the town we would be staying in for the month. We knew we would be driving for 7 hours and it would be through mountains but we had not idea that it would be as much of an adventure as it was. The two lane roads turned into one lane dirt roads which became interesting once another car came from the other direction.
The drive was beautiful to say the least and we were in awe of the beauty of God’s earth. The village we are staying in reminds us of the simple things in life. That it’s oaky to “stop and smell the roses,” and that simplicity is one of the most beautiful ways of life imaginable. Especially here in Nepal, where our neighbors own oxen and build their own beds and we are surrounded by golden fields of corn. For the first time I am truly learning to LIVE.
