In Honduras this month we had the opportunity to not only teach English in a bilingual school but we also were given the opportunity to go and help out at a Special Needs School!!
No let me tell you when you walk into this room you are filled with pure joy!! From the very beginning I felt the joy by just waking though from all of the hugs, smiles and waves that were received!!
On the first day that we were there I was placed in the youngest class that has 10 children from the ages of 5-7 will many different types of disabilities. From Down Syndrome to Autism to more intellectual disabilities!! No matter what there diognosis is the love and joy that I felt was crazy!!
When we would walk into the room you would be blown away by the HOLA’S that would be shouted excitedly at you!! Then it is just time to jump in!! Most times that meant for me is just sitting with children and working with whatever they were working on!!
Some of the activities that I have done this past month have been crazy and exciting!!! Let me PAINT you a picture!!! What does it look like when a child is dot painting with the end of a suction cup toothbrush??? A Glorious Mess of blue paint with a lot of laughs and giggles from all parties involved!! If that means blue paint on my face, arms and clothes is it all worth it for the laughter that occurred!!!
What about popsicle sticks!! They can be used so many ways from counting to stacking to building!!! Also you can put the thin ones in a water bottle and they sound really cool when you dump them all over the floor!!! It was the joy in the eyes when they fell and there was no yelling!! Just the fun of now getting to use the broom to clean them all up!!!!
Now let me talk about play dough!!! This was an invention from God!! You can do so much with it and you do not need strong hands to play with it at all!! Also you can create names by making worms and spelling out names!! Now let me tell you the smiles when they see there name in there favorite dough is unforgettable!!!
Now I challenge you this week to think about your day differently!!! Do you need to freak our when your kids/Friends/siblings make you crazy!!! Or can you just laugh and smile about it and make it a new game!! That is what I did this month and I encourage you to do the same!!! This humbleness shows God’s Love in a new way that many people have never seen before !!!
