So this week was a crazy fun week in Guatemala!! This week was the week of Independence of Guatemala and they celebrate there independence with great JOY AND EXCITEMENT!!
One of the biggest events that happens for Independence Day in Guatemala is the running of the torches!! What this is a run from one city in Guatemala that is not your home city to your home city!! Everyone participates in this run from school groups, church groups, neighbors, friends, and any other group that you could imagine.

So on Thursday morning, a group of we got up and left at 5 am for a 3 hour bus ride to a city called Quetzaltenango, which is one of the first cities in Guatemala. We were able to explore the city, go to there festive and get ready for our run with the middle school.
While we were waiting we decided that we were going to paint the Guatemalan flag on our faces so that we were ready for the run. Once we did that you would have guessed that we were celebrities!! We has at least 10 different people come up to us and ask for a picture with us!!
We danced, we laughed, got interview by the news paper, and we just had an amazing time. Then when the middle school arrived we joined them in line and started running!! We ran two miles and then it was time to get back into the bus. But before we left our group decided that we would show the middle schoolers some of the line dances that we know. They loved it and again we were filmed like celebrities.
After this experience I am excited to know that we really showed Gods love and that although it was uncomfortable being a celebrity for God is so much more rewarding then anything else.
